What Color Should I Paint Kitchen Cabinets

What Color Should I Paint Kitchen Cabinets – By now you’ve probably realized that one of the most popular ways to give your kitchen (and in many ways your home) an affordable makeover is to paint your kitchen cabinets. Just 10 years ago, stained maple and oak were the most popular choices, but painted cabinets are quickly becoming the norm.

We do a lot of kitchen cabinet (and bathroom cabinet, etc) refinishing in the Cleveland, OH area and one of the most common questions we get is what color to choose. Here are some of our favorite examples (all taken from our work) with explanations to help you decide what’s best for your home. Remember, when choosing a paint color, all the other colors in the room will affect how it looks best. A color may look good in someone else’s kitchen, but not in yours. White is still the most popular color, at least for five years or more. One of the reasons why white is so popular is that it accentuates all the other colors in the kitchen (such as walls and counters). White painted cabinets can make a smaller kitchen look bigger, as can lighter colored walls. We like to use Benjamin Moore’s White Dove (OC-17) when painting kitchen cabinets white.

Should I Paint Or Refinish My Kitchen Cabinets?

This kitchen is in Avon Lake and we helped them transition their kitchen from dark brown (almost black) painted cabinets to bright white. This really transformed the space and made the whole kitchen look bigger.

This kitchen was very similar, but we painted it white in Ohio City in a different kitchen style. You can see how dark the cabinets were before painting.

Here is an example of painting kitchen cabinets from Westlake where we painted them white. It’s a big kitchen, but painting the cabinets white makes it look much more modern.

Finally, another kitchen that we painted a little white (white is very popular so we have many options). Painting our closets at Avon gave them a dramatic transformation thanks to newly refinished hardwood floors and new countertops. You can see that we used a gray/green color on the island as an accent piece. The best part….never a golden oak again!!

Painting Kitchen Cabinets: Popular Kitchen Cabinet Color Ideas

The most popular color of the second wardrobe is white or cream. In many cases, bright white paint on kitchen cabinets can be too bright. This is often the case if the rest of the home decor is white, or if kitchen counters or floors are on the warm side of the color spectrum. For example, if your bills have a lot of brown or yellow tones, white can be a great compliment.

It might be hard to tell from the picture below, but this is an example of white. We painted this kitchen cabinet in Brecksville with Sherwin Williams Bauhaus Buff (SW 7552).

The color works well (and even looks brighter) in this kitchen than other colors. Since the walls are shades of green and the background has many shades of brown, this white complements it well.

Gray is the most popular color family for wall paint, but is it the best color for your kitchen cabinets? It’s definitely a popular choice, but it’s probably a little more “trendy” than black and white. As with any color, it depends on the rest of your decor, including flooring and countertops. Light gray and dark gray are popular for wardrobes. Dark gray can be particularly sharp in a piece of cabinetry, such as painting an island or base cabinets that color.

Can My Kitchen Cabinets Be Different From The Rest Of My House?

Below is an example of an Avon Lake kitchen cabinet painting where we painted the cabinets a light gray color. Our interior designer helped the owner choose Benjamin Moore’s “Bone Black CW-715” color. We also painted a piece of wood near the top black to give it an accent. This is very good with black accounts.

If you already have a lot of gray and white in the kitchen, a great option for painting the cabinets can be dark blue. This can only be used on some cabinets instead of all, but it can be a fun accent and focal point. This is definitely not for everyone and may not be as popular as it was 5 years ago, but it’s a pretty popular option now.

We love how this Avon kitchen cabinet color came out with this bright blue island. It’s a really great focal point and works well with white counters and backsplashes. Blue and white are also very strong with these dark brown floors. We also did a painted kitchen cabinet in Lakewood where you can see how the navy blue looks on the bottom of the cabinet with the white on top. You can see that the other colors in the kitchen in the family are gray and white (cooler colors), because the blue gives a strong contrast. It also works well with stainless steel appliances.

The last color option to display is a shade of green. Similar to navy blue, this is a fashion option that only works in some cases. This color can work at home with warmer tones, such as beige or “grey” tones. It would also probably work better with a slightly creamy white instead of an all white.

Here is an example picture of the cabinets in Lakewood where we painted the cabinets white and green. The lower cabinets are painted Cascade Green (SW 0066) by Sherwin Williams. You can see that the walls are also painted in “greige” (a warm gray-taupe combination). Note that the client installed the backsplash. We don’t just lose a seat. hahaha!

If you’re looking for a relaxed vibe with a bold color, blue might be the way to go. The calming nature of blue makes it an especially good choice for people who feel more like a candidate for America’s Worst Chef in Gordon Ramsey’s kitchen. Blue can be beautiful in combination with a wooden floor and a classic white subway. Let your creative juices flow and consider pairing blue cabinets with bright orange or yellow. Kitchens are great places to experiment with colors and flavors.

For those who want a trendy look, painted gray cabinets are relatively new in popularity. Gray cabinets work well with stainless steel appliances to give the space a sleek, contemporary look. As gray is relatively neutral in the color spectrum, it is like white and blends well with almost all floors and backsplashes. Although the gray is a bit bolder than the white, it doesn’t look as ugly as the white. Also, like white, gray can be combined with different accent colors to make bold statements in a space.
