Choosing a mattress that is too small for your bed is a common mistake and can make your room look small and unbalanced. The 8×10 foot rug size is the most popular because it fits both king and double beds. Let’s talk about mattress sizes depending on the size of your bed!

The 9 x 12 foot mattress is quite big but it is proportionate when dealing with a king size bed and I like to use it if there is enough space. A mattress this size will give you enough room to cover both sides of the bed as well as the edge of the bed.

An 8′ x 10′ rug under a king size bed will also work. If you are dealing with a small master bedroom, I would recommend choosing this size so that the carpet doesn’t take up too much space, which can look overwhelming.

But over the years, I’ve learned some tried and true tips that really take the guesswork out of choosing the right size. It’s important to get it right the first time if you can, as sending a message to the sender is not the easiest task! When it comes to carpets, large area rugs will look awkward and uncomfortable. If the carpet is so big that it touches the walls of the room, it will not make your space happy! Think about when you wear a dress that falls off you because it is 2-3 sizes too big (and not in the usual way! 😉). It makes you feel free. Same idea with mattresses. On the other hand, a rug that is too small will make the space look unbalanced and unbalanced. The last thing you want is a small rectangular rug with nothing on it, creating its own island in the middle of the room.

Your rug should hold the legs of the main pieces of furniture and create a unifying force in the room. This will contribute to a cozy atmosphere and fun conversations!

To keep the space grounded, place at least one pair of feet from each large piece of furniture on the carpet.

When your carpet is the right size, it should be your stepping stone when it comes to getting up off large pieces of furniture. When you get out of bed, you need a comfortable mattress to rest your feet on. And when your alarm goes off in the morning, knowing your feet are sinking into something soft and comfortable will make getting out of bed a little easier!
